Has potential
This game looks and sounds fun. The graphics are a nice clean pixel art style, with cool music and nice and appropriate sound effects. The game feels fun to play but quickly turns stale.
Just to get this out of the way, the controls are a bit annoying. I would prefer a digital dpad instead of a joystick. And I dont know if this next thing that Im going to mention was done in compensation for the joystick control for movement but it doesnt play like a twin stick shooter (which the controls and genre seem to suggest). The right button is just a button, and your character faces enemies automatically when near them. This means that I dont aim and shoot, I just hold down the attack button and try to get near enemies without touching them. This barely requires any skill, and is even annoying to do because of the digital joystick. While twin stick shooters dont reaaaally require skill (depending on the game design), it would have been better than auto-aiming and shooting enemies with a button press.
I like finding quest doors and the secrets with the treasure. I also like the power ups that you can acquire, especially the lightning one. There is very little variety in enemy types and their attack patterns. While there are some new enemies introduced or new environmental hazards, they are few and widely dispersed, making the game more boring to get through due to lack of varying or engaging game play. And for the new enemies and hazards, all they require me to do is not rush in too close to them. Thats it. Nothing else to it. No other skills required.
I would have liked to pick up new weapons or equipment so that I can sell at the shop.
The weapon upgrade is nice but doesnt feel any more rewarding.
The shop is available in the early dungeons but the items to buy are too high for me to purchase since I just started the game and barely have any money. Either have items that are cheaper appear earlier or have shops appear later on.
So far I have tried the Valkyrie and probably the magician. There is very little to distinguish them in traits when regarding game play, so even changing characters doesnt add much more fun.
I have tried the other characters and the Valkyrie is the best.
Also, the cut scenes that appear after reaching certain dungeon floors are kind of fun, but Id rather control the 4 characters and make them navigate the dungeons and have funny commentary come up instead of those little cut scenes.
